ABSTRACT
Personnel appraisal performance/evaluation is the process through which staff of an organization are accessed annually to determine their continued relevance or otherwise to their organization, in this case, personnel development this system is concerned primarily with the basis function of giving special advise to the management, recruitment, training and development benefit and welfare, the achievement of personnel policies and procedures.
Computerized system posses high speed of processing, its versatility and high retrieval system makes possible completion of tasks that cannot achieved by manual system because of difficulty in computing them on time. Therefore, this project is meant to understand the personnel appraisal system the feasibility study of existing system and the implement of those system manually with its inherent problems consequently develop a new system basically computerized system that will solve the problem using visual basic. The problem researcher enounced in the course of study is to get information from my case study was not easy for me due to the systems there are using but I later get the information needed.
ORGANIZATION OF WORK
The project work is made up of the title page, the Approval page, Certification, dedication, Acknowledgement, the Abstract, the Organization of work and table of contents. It is also divided into chapters which are subdivided into statement of the problem, aims and objectives, purpose of study, significance of the study, scope, limitation, assumption of study, definition of terms.
Chapter two is made up of literature review of the study, chapter three is made up of the description and analysis of the existing system, fact finding method, organizational structure, objective of the existing system, input, process and output analysis input analysis, process analysis, out analysis, information flow diagram problems of the for new system.
Chapter four is made up of the design of a new system, design standard, output specification and design, file design, procedure chart, system flow chart, system requirements, hardware requirements, software requirements, operational requirement personnel requirements. program design, program flow chart, pseudo code, coding, test data or test run, user training an over view, cutover process, program documentation, and user documentation
Chapter five is made up of recommendation summary and conclusion.
CHAPTER ONE
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Computers have become a glamorous “attractive” new adventure especially its limitless areas of application with in the society, so computer oriented literacy and application have become must that an average man in the society suppose to no the basic computer concepts and terminology, how the computer works and how it can basically be used to solve problems. Many companies and organization are all interested on how fast they could get the job done with efficiency and accuracy. Not only that many organizations no longer employ those who have no basic computer knowledge but in Nigeria today, basic knowledge in computer has become one of the criteria for employment.
Following the emergency of computer and other electronic data processing equipment paper work and the need for record keeping came into play. The uses of computer have caused decisive changes in human civilization. Its development is one of the major events not just in scientific history, but in the world history. The computer has deeper effect on less than anything else because it penetrates the technological level; penetrate the logical activity, political activity and the way people think. It is very difficult to think of any aspect of our life that is not scientifically influenced, this is why origination, firms especially in administration choose to-automatic their offices.
A personnel appraisal is one crucial tasking and risking aspect of organization is glaringly not only important but also an essential necessity.
The term personnel appraisal is the process through which staffs of an organization are accessed annual to determine their continued relevance or to their organization. The personnel appraisal system term among other embraces:
a. Recruitment, selection and placement
b. Wages and salaries administration
c. Employee welfare health and safety and leave
d. Training and development and industrial relatives and also joint consultation.
Finally, in this project titled “Personnel appraisal system” is centered on using the computer as an aid to process the personnel and all its appraisal function with its attached advantages over the mundane filing system.
1.1 STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
The current system has some limitations, at a time of carryout this study, Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) Enugu, is still using the manual method of evaluating salaries of workers. This method is prone to many errors, problems and difficulties stated below:
a. There is a problem of emission of names which may occur as a result of carelessness of the person that is doing it therefore putting the person in difficulties of not getting his money on time.
b. The manual system takes much time which have been save and used to do some other office work that is necessary.
c. The limited communication that exists between manual prevent smooth flow of information with the workers.
1.2 AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The basic aim of this work is the effective and efficient appraisal of staff in the institute so that at the end, the system aims at doing the following:
a. Recording for all employees’ data concerning service history and personnel attributes.
b. Providing an inventory of skills available in the institute, job assignment.
c. Recording, for all employees’ data concerning their salaries and annual leave.
d. Giving special advice to the management.
