Abstract

Online clearance system is a research work that will help build an efficient information management for schools. It is aim at developing a system for making clearance after graduation. This will help build a more reliable and effective means of undertaking student clearance, removing all forms of delay and stress. School management and computer experts have come to appreciate the need for online clearance system for graduating students. It is a project work that helps you to understand what school clearance is all about, the procedures for clearance after graduation, how to do your clearance on the web and a design and implementation of an online clearance system for the University. Moreover, the design and implementation will be carried out using HTML, PHP-MYSQL and Jquery.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1            Background of the Study

Clearance is a status granted individuals, typically members of the military, university graduates and employees of governments and their contractors, allowing them access to classified information, i.e. state secrets. The term “clearance ” is also sometimes used in private organizations that have a formal process to vet employees for access to sensitive information. A clearance by itself is normally not sufficient to gain access; the organization must determine that the cleared individual has a “need to know” the information. No one is supposed to be granted access to classified information solely because of rank or position, but once a clearance is obtained, access to certain information or gain of freedom will be granted.

As many universities have choosing to pursue the dynamic educational options available online. The advantages of e-learning are many. As people of all ages and backgrounds become increasingly reliant on the internet for information, online learning becomes more convenient and efficient here the need for an online clearance system. The skills needed to access and comprehend information online are becoming commonplace, and the flexibility of wireless computing means that any coffee shop, airport or bedroom can become a classroom. Online courses, registrations, clearance have few, if any scheduling restrictions, well-integrated learning resources and competitive degree options, with an online clearance system.

The changing online college landscape now includes online clearance system, traditional undergraduate and general studies programs. However, career learning is still the most popular online training option.

1.2     Statement of The Problem

The processes of clearing students after their graduation requires that the students be cleared in various departments and information units. Among which are:

  • Library fines and overdue or lost library materials from the University
    • Departmental Dues
    • Infirmary and bookstore charges
    • Residence hall damage charges
    • Return of athletic equipment
    • Student Union Fee
    • Bursary and all other charges

For a graduating student to carry out his her clearance from all these departments, it normally takes a lot of time and a lot of processes and delayed. Hence it became imperative for an online clearance system to eliminate the shortcomings of the manual system in place.

1.3     Objectives of the Study

The objective of this project is to examine how school clearance system can be computerised and accessed online, with the main objective being to develop software that can enable the students to do their clearance online. Thereby removing the huddles that students face after graduation in their attempt to do their clearance from different departments.

1.4     Scope of the Study

This research work is limited to clearance system for graduating students from Caritas University. The software developed will be carried out using HTML  and PHP-MYSQL to manage both the database and at the same time make the software online.

1.5      Limitations

This project covers all aspect of online clearance system using Caritas University as a case study. Due to time constraint, the web – page developed covers only clearance from various departments by the graduating students.  What ever is left out is as a result of time and finance as it cost a lot to develop a full web – based clearance system.

1.6       Significance Of The Study

The project work will help in a good number of ways to ease the queuing system in the university as the online clearance system will help students to achieve what ever they want to achieve without coming to the various offices for clearance.

Clear advantages of Internet information processing over those of traditional manual system are higher yields. Online clearance system allows the users to check their clearance status as whether they are in any way indebted to the school, fill and submit their clearance form, and obtain their clearance letter. There are many other advantages of online clearance system and some of them are listed below.

o       It saves a lot of time.

o       It is very convenient to use it right from the bedroom, office or anywhere in the World.

o       Information processing are very fast and  delays can be avoided.

o       It is inexpensive to students and school management.

  • Help the school in reducing costs such as labour and stationary.

Abstract

The adoption of Electronic Banking by commercial enterprise has been in existence since the mid 90s, much greater in number due to lower operating costs associated with it. Electronic banking has been in the form of automatic teller machines and telephone transactions. More recently, it has been transformed by the Internet, a new delivery channel for banking services that benefits both customers and banks. Access is fast, convenient, and available around the clock. Furthermore, customer’s application for electronic banking facilities is expanding as the cost savings on transactions over the internet are significant. The chances and threats that the internet symbolizes is no longer news to the present day banking sector. No traditional bank would dare face investment analysts without an Internet strategy. Moreover, business success is not guaranteed by a detailed and thoughtful approach to the internet. The main intention behind the commencement of electronic banking services is to provide the customers with an alternative that is more responsive and with less expensive options. With options just a click away, customers have more control than ever. Their expectations are usability and real-time answers. They also want personal attention and highly customized products and services. CHAPTER ONE

1.0       INTRODUCTION

1.1            Background of the Study

Banks have traditionally been in the forefront of harnessing technology to improve their products and services. They have over the time been using electronic and telecommunication networks for delivering a wide range of value added products and services. The range of services and products offered by different banks vary widely both in their contents and sophistication. E-banking provides enormous benefits to consumers in terms of the ease and cost of transactions. However, it can be thought of as a service that allows customers to use some forms of computer to access account-specific information and possibly conduct transactions from a remote location – such as at home or at the workplace. The most efficient system architecture and advanced technologies are being used for E-banking results for the provision of internet banking services for the financial sector which enables the banks to carry out the their services like web banking to their customers. While over the years developed countries like Sweden have not tapped into the freedom to conduct routine banking transactions from the comfort and security of customer.

Electronic banking has been around for some time in the form of automatic teller machine and telephone transactions. “More recently, it has been transformed by the Internet, a new delivery channel for banking services that benefits both customer and bank. Access is fast, convenient, and available round the clock, whatever the customer’s location. Plus, banks can provide services more efficiently and at substantially lower costs”. E-banking also makes it easier for customer to banks’ services and products, can increase completion among banks, and allows banks to penetrate new markets and thus expand their geographical reach. Some even see electronic banking as an opportunity for countries with underdeveloped financial systems to leapfrog developmental stages. Customer in such countries can access services more easily from banks outside his/her own country through wireless communication systems, which are developing more rapidly than traditional “wired” communication networks. Probably, the major phenomenon of the twenty first century has been electronic communication and information technology. The technological progress is now sufficiently well advanced for it to enable commercial transaction and non commercial activities which is facilitated through the use of information technology and network technology such as the internet, intranet and extranet. Electronic Banking has emerged as a significant and rapidly growing component of the world economic exchange. Through Electronic Banking the world economic exchange has been reduced to a tiny global village in terms of its information capacity and the resources it holds which can be accessed by anybody from anywhere in the globe through the use of medium of E-commerce namely the internet and some other electronic devices.

Electronic Banking does not only encompass the way you shop over the Internet, but also the ways you carry out banking transactions. A few years ago, banks started to offer their service on the Internet, in addition to the traditional services in the branch. This allowed customers, more independence in the choice where and when to bank, as they were not bound to opening hours. Electronic Banking has revolutionized the way business is transacted by globalizing the business enterprise. Multinationals, small and medium scale industries no matter their geographical locations are all beneficiaries of electronic banking. It encompasses all kind of commercial transaction that is conducted on an electronic medium, mostly through the Internet.

E-banking links business to customers no matter their geographical location. It allows companies to make new business contacts from different global business alliance, test near products and services, and make market research and other enquiries all at a minimal cost both financial and otherwise.

1.2            Statement of the Problem

In banking industries today, queuing has become the order of the day, customer’s line up for hours waiting to withdraw or deposit money.  This creates a lot of problem to both customers as they waste their useful time in the banking hall, and also management of the bank as the run around to find solution to their problems.

Also it is observed that customers cannot withdraw money any time they want as banks has their working hours. This is a big problem as needs can arise at any time and human beings will always like to have those needs solved. Also money deposited into accounts at times takes some hours to reflect in the persons account balance hence making banking operations slow and unhealthy for business environment.

1.3       Purpose of the Project

The purpose of this project work is to study and find out how best computer can be used in banking industry to facilitate online banking through the use of internet. Hence, software will be developed to facilitate online banking system.

1.4     Objectives of the Study

The objectives of this project are as follows:

(i)          The project work will reveal the true meaning of internet banking information system and how to achieve it.

(ii)       This project will reveal the advantages of the Internet to the user.

(iii)     It will also reveal to the user the applications of the Internet.

(iv)     The project will educate the user on banking system, their operations and services.

(v)        The user will understand some security threats and their controls on the Internet.

(vi)     This project will also include the design and implementation of an internet banking information system.

(vii)  This project will also enable us understand some technologies that enable the Internet work the way it is working.

1.5     Justification of the Project

The project work will help in a good number of ways to ease the queuing system in the banks as the online banking system will help customers to achieve what ever they want to achieve without coming to the bank.

Clear advantages of Internet checking accounts over those of traditional brick-and-mortar banks are higher yields, a higher proportion of free accounts and much lower balance requirements. Online banking information system allows the users to check their account information, statements and pay the bills instantly. Customer has to login into his account using the username and password, check the statement and fill the amount and authorize the payment and it will be posted instantly or in a couple of days. Options are provided to authorize payments on regular intervals (on the same date every month) to the same vendor or different vendors. There are many other advantages of online banking system and some of them are listed below.

o       It saves a lot of time.

o       It is very convenient to use it right from the bedroom, office or anywhere in the World.

o       Transactions are very fast and postal delays can be avoided.

o       It is inexpensive to customer.

o       Bills can be paid in a very convenient fashion round the clock.

o       It allows making transactions on weekends and holidays too.

o       Transactions are secured.

o       Help the bank in reducing the costs such as labour, inventory and stationary.

ABSTRACT
Topic: Design and implementation of an online students admission system: A case of study of federal college of education, Eha-Amufu

By
Onyolu Doreen .N.
(CS/N2002/005)

The difficulties students and staff of admission office usually face in any higher institution, made us to realize that computer assisted admission system is the best in processing students record in Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu, Enugu. This will save our school the embarrassment caused by students complaints at the end of working day.

Our basic objective of designing and implementing an online students admission system is the development of data Base computer program that will enable the Register and admission officers to efficiently, accurately and effectively process and co-ordinate the various students activities in the institution without much difficulties with little time.

In view of this, admission officers must prepare for successful working relationship with an online information processing and in addition get their members of staff familiarized with the system for easy and effortless exercise that produce reliable output (result).

This project describes how much an students admission system is developed and how in particular it can be effectively used for the day to day running of the set-up.
For the purpose of this research we shall use data base programming language version iv. This is because Dbase iv handles a large volume of data. It is database management package, which is good for students record keeping activities.

CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
The background of the study is Federal College of Education Eha-Amufu. Here is the brief history about the college.

On February 21, 1981, the then Governor of former Anambra State, Chief Jim Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo, announced the first provost and Registrar of the Institution. On 23rd December 1982, the Anambra State House of Assembly enacted a law retroactively establishing the college. The law cited as the “Anambra State of Nigeria how No. 28 of 1982” Came into force on 21st February 1981.
The aim of the college as set out in the law establishing it include:
(i) To organize, improve and develop courses of science and training various categories of teachers.
(ii) To promote research and advancements of science and leasing .
(iii) To serve as a center for educational research especially as applied to local conditions.
(iv) To organize, improve and extend education of standard higher than secondary school level.
(v) To encourage all closes and communities without any distinction to pursue liberal course of education.
After the announcement of the establishment of the college of Education, Eha-Amufu by the Governor with effect from 21st February, 1981, a temporary office with skeletal staff was opened at an office around the then Anambra Television (ATV) Independence Layout, Enugu.

On 7th August, 1981, the then Anambra State commissioner for Education and the then permanent secretary to the ministry took the newly appointed provost and Registrar to the present site of the college at Eha-Amufu, about 64 km Northust of Enugu, the Enugu state capital. The site was formerly occupied by the federal Government owned Teacher Training College (TTC), Eha-Amufu.

When the federal Government handed over the facilities of the college to the Anambra State Government, it decided to use the facilities to establish and run the college of Education Eha-Amufu. This site of the defunct ITC. Eha-Amufu, has remained the permanent site of the college of Education, Eha-Amufu.
On 1994, it was handed over to Federal Government again and became Federal college of Education Eha-Amufu under the Governance of the then Executive Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Okweslieze Nwodo.

The ultimate goal of any establishment is effectiveness. This is achieved only when is/are proper co-ordination of activities between the various units that comprises the system. This coordination is even more important in institution of higher hearing especially at the students, admission, where the desired end is to bring in students who will at the end of the day acquire knowledge that will help the entire society.
Ineffectiveness of diminish system could diminish its ability to relieve student’s tension, frustration and worse still produce lethal consequences. Any measure therefore that can improve the needed response of any institution and its general efficiency is most welcome.

An online students admission system enables the staff in charge to get the students record foster, therefore saving process precious time in student’s management.
In an online institution’s admission’s admission system, the electronic machine quickly retrieves any available information regarding to any student and displays it within a short period of time.

Any adhoc enquiry concerning a student’s indebtedness to the school is responded to promptly, computer could more accurately do staff duty roster.

Coding the particulars of the staff into the computer does this and after, it can be saved and will be available for retrieval at anytime. And because the documents are printed, and information about each staff is contained and can be accessible to determined how many hours in a week each works and then next he/he should be on seat. Thus reducing administrative work loud on the staff.

1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The difficulties student and staff of admission department usually force in any institution of higher learning made us to realize that (computer aid) an online admission system is the best that can happen to Federal college of Education Eha-Amufu. This will save our school the embarrassment caused by students’ complaints at the end of the working day.

It was in the view of this that Sundison (1994) pointed out that “a typical problem students have had was moving from school to another school. In a modern society labour moves quite a bit and many students change schools at least once in their lifetime. Every time new

INTRODUCTION
A quality control system in production management is a qualitative technique with strong financial implications having direct relationships with production, marketing, purchasing and financial politics.

Also, it is a system used in the management of stocks held by any organisation as it concern addition to, storage and removals from the trading stock with appropriates record keeping.

ANAMMCO LTD, Enugu as an assembly plant maintains a large amount of stock vehicles spare parts which are imported from any of her vendors, Vce:- MBAG. Mercedes Benz AG Germany, MBBRAS. Mercedes – Benz Brazil or MBE – Mercedes. Benz Espama for the production line or sales to distributors or authorized agents dealers.

The stock are held for various among which are:-
(a) To ensure unit sufficient goods are available to meet anticipated demand.
(b) To provide a better between production processes.
This is, applicable to work in project stocks which effectively decouple operation.
(c) To meet possible shortage in future
(d) To absorb seasonal fluctuation in usage or demand.
(e) To enable production process to flow smoothly and efficiently.
(f) As a necessary part of the production process.
All these are logical yet, stocks accumulate due to the Less promise worthy reasons which are:-
(a) Obsolete items are retained in stock
(b) Poor or non-existing inventory control resulting in over targe orders, replacement orders being out of phase with production etc.
(c) Inadequate or non-existing stock records
(d) Marketing departments.

Whether as a deliberate policy or not, sticks, represents an investment by the organization. Thus, as with any other investment, the cost of holding stock most be related to the benefit to benefit to be gains. To do this effectively the cost must be identified and this can be done in the three categories:-
(a) Cost of obtaining stock
(b) Stock out costs.
All these spare parts which may how similar menu by description varies greatly among themselves depending on the type or model of vehicle using them. Thus, the management and operation of stories function and the control of stock on only be performed in on efficient manner when there is an appropriate means of up turning and storing information and a facility for the analysis and use of this information.
In the light of the above, ANAMMCO Ltd Enugu maintains a visible record system returned to as KARDEX, a manual form of inventory control system.

As a prerequisite in any quality control system, ANAMMCO Ltd maintains a peculiar but unique coding system such that all the numerous spare parts are each uniquely coded and identified for accurate and specific information on them.
The operation of the KARDX was often prove to redundancy or duplication of items whenever there is instilling; it requires a lot of paper work with their possible variations or discrepancies during documentation; it involves, so many people thereby investing a lot of man hours; increased cost of procure storage of non-moving or obsolete items leads to customer dissatisfaction due to time wasting and unavailability of information. Thus, the efficiency of the system is greatly dependent on human factor and as such accuracy.

So, it is an attempt to rectify and modify the above inadquaciets that we have decided to develop and implement on integrated computerized stock control system so as to maximize the operation efficiency, ensure customer satisfaction based on quick.
Services, minimize the non-hour requirement involved, reduce the running costs, guarantee accuracy and at the same time generate reports that assist management in her decision making as it concerns planning, organizing and controlling.

CHAPTER ONE
