DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF COMPUTERIZED PERSONNEL APPRAISAL SYSTEM (CASE STUDY OF PERSONNEL DEPARTMENT IMT ENUGU)

ABSTRACT
Personnel appraisal performance/evaluation is the process through which staff of an organization are accessed annually to determine their continued relevance or otherwise to their organization, in this case, personnel development this system is concerned primarily with the basis function of giving special advise to the management, recruitment, training and development benefit and welfare, the achievement of personnel policies and procedures. Computerized system posses high speed of processing, its versatility and high retrieval system makes possible completion of tasks that cannot achieved by manual system because of difficulty in computing them on time. Therefore, this project is meant to understand the personnel appraisal system the feasibility study of existing system and the implement of those system manually with its inherent problems consequently develop a new system basically computerized system that will solve the problem using visual basic. The problem researcher enounced in the course of study is to get information from my case study was not easy for me due to the systems there are using but I later get the information needed.

ORGANIZATION OF WORK
The project work is made up of the title page, the Approval page, Certification, dedication, Acknowledgement, the Abstract, the Organization of work and table of contents. It is also divided into chapters which are subdivided into statement of the problem, aims and objectives, purpose of study, significance of the study, scope, limitation, assumption of study, definition of terms.
Chapter two is made up of literature review of the study, chapter three is made up of the description and analysis of the existing system, fact finding method, organizational structure, objective of the existing system, input, process and output analysis input analysis, process analysis, out analysis, information flow diagram problems of the for new system.
Chapter four is made up of the design of a new system, design standard, output specification and design, file design, procedure chart, system flow chart, system requirements, hardware requirements, software requirements, operational requirement personnel requirements. program design, program flow chart, pseudo code, coding, test data or test run, user training an over view, cutover process, program documentation, and user documentation
Chapter five is made up of recommendation summary and conclusion.

CHAPTER ONE
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Computers have become a glamorous “attractive” new adventure especially its limitless areas of application with in the society, so computer oriented literacy and application have become must that an average man in the society suppose to no the basic computer concepts and terminology, how the computer works and how it can basically be used to solve problems. Many companies and organization are all interested on how fast they could get the job done with efficiency and accuracy. Not only that many organizations no longer employ those who have no basic computer knowledge but in Nigeria today, basic knowledge in computer has become one of the criteria for employment.
Following the emergency of computer and other electronic data processing equipment paper work and the need for record keeping came into play. The uses of computer have caused decisive changes in human civilization. Its development is one of the major events not just in scientific history, but in the world history. The computer has deeper effect on less than anything else because it penetrates the technological level; penetrate the logical activity, political activity and the way people think. It is very difficult to think of any aspect of our life that is not scientifically influenced, this is why origination, firms especially in administration choose to-automatic their offices.
A personnel appraisal is one crucial tasking and risking aspect of organization is glaringly not only important but also an essential necessity. The term personnel appraisal is the process through which staffs of an organization are accessed annual to determine their continued relevance or to their organization. The personnel appraisal system term among other embraces:
a. Recruitment, selection and placement
b. Wages and salaries administration
c. Employee welfare health and safety and leave
d. Training and development and industrial relatives and also joint consultation.
Finally, in this project titled “Personnel appraisal system” is centered on using the computer as an aid to process the personnel and all its appraisal function with its attached advantages over the mundane filing system.

1.1 STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
The current system has some limitations, at a time of carryout this study, Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) Enugu, is still using the manual method of evaluating salaries of workers. This method is prone to many errors, problems and difficulties stated below:
a. There is a problem of emission of names which may occur as a result of carelessness of the person that is doing it therefore putting the person in difficulties of not getting his money on time.
b. The manual system takes much time which have been save and used to do some other office work that is necessary.
c. The limited communication that exists between manual prevent smooth flow of information with the workers.

1.2 AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The basic aim of this work is the effective and efficient appraisal of staff in the institute so that at the end, the system aims at doing the following:
a. Recording for all employees’ data concerning service history and personnel attributes.
b. Providing an inventory of skills available in the institute, job assignment.
c. Recording, for all employees’ data concerning their salaries and annual leave.
d. Giving special advice to the management.

DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A COMPUTERIZED QUALITY CONTROL SYSTEM FOR A MANUFACTURING ORGANIZATION (A CASE STUDY OF S.E.D.I ENUGU)

ABSTRACT

The purpose of the study is to computerize quality control system for manufacturing organization (A case study of S.E.D.I Enugu) and to develop a computer package whereby the techniques observed from the manual method can be improved on. It is known fact that the manual method of quality control system in production has been associated with lots in inaccuracy in quality control and this has lead to early break down of parts when in service. The software with developed will facilitate and enhanced the mode and methods of quality control in spare production of S.E.D.I Enugu.

1.1     INTRODUCTION

          A quality control system in production management is a qualitative technique with strong financial implication having direct relationships with production, marketing, purchasing and financial policies.

Also, it is a system used in the management of manufacturing held by any organization as it concern addition to, storage and removal from the trading organization with appropriate record keeping.

S.E.D.I. Ltd, Enugu as an assembly plant maintains a large amount of stick vehicle spare parts which are imported from any of her vendor, Viz:- MBAG-Mercedes – Benz AG Germany, MBBRAS-Mercedes- Benz Brazil or MBE-Mercedes-Benz Espana for the production line or sales to distributions or authorized agents/dealers.

These stocks are held for various reasons among which are:

(a)     To ensure unit sufficient goods are available to meet anticipated demand.

(b)     To provide a buffer between production processes. This is applicable to work in progress stocks effectively decouple operation.

(c)      To meet possible shortages in the future.

All these spare part, which may similar menu by description, varies greatly among themselves depending on the type of model of vehicle using them. Thus, the management and operation of stores functions and the control of stock can only be performed in an efficient manner when there is an appropriate means of upturning and storing information and the facility of the analysis and use of this information.

 

 

DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A WINDOW BASED FRONT-DESK INFORMATION SYSTEM(A CASE STUDY OF MAY FRESH SAVINGS AND LOAN LIMITED ONITSHA

ABSTRACT

In account form analysis, a lot of discrepancies causes by manual aspect of the form such as: lost of form, inability to correct intakes, poor storage facilities have been a problem in the May fresh savings and loan limited account form. But in recent times, the computer has come to the aid of our banks, May fresh in particular.

The introduction of computer into the banking operation has to a great extent affected the mode of operation of banks in diverse ways. Computer has touched almost every application area in Banking such as: Savings account, current accounts, bank expenditure, fixed deposit, staff salary, incomes to the banks etc.

This work studies also t he procedure involved in taking proper account of information appraisal in the banks i.e being able to record customers’ information such as; Name, Address/Business, Address, Occupation, Age, Sex, Next of Kins, Address of kin, Signature, Date, Initial deposit, Passport etc. The design and implementation of window based from desk information system is to enhance the mode of operation or rather to keep proper storage of the information’s supplied by the new customers of the bank. With the computerized form of it, no much stress in writing down the information supplied by the customer and stores it in a database such that whenever reference is required, you can easily retrieve the particular information and make necessary use of it. The computerized software is very comprehensive and reliable if implemented.

 

DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A COMPUTER BASED BILL OF MATERIAL PROCESSING SYSTEM

ABSTRACT

It has become very necessary to computerize the bill of material processing system in Nigeria due to the impact it has on the overall efficiency of the organization.

This project undertakes the computer-based bill of material processing system of Nigeria.

An in-depth study of the existing manual system is done and the problems encountered are noted. The need for a system is justified.

The new system is designed to solve the problems encountered in the old system.

Information management is made easier and efficiency is enhanced the benefits of the new system justify the cost and therefore these benefits cannot be over-emphasized.

CHAPTER ONE

 

INTRODUCTION

          Bill of material processing can be described the compilation of the raw materials required to produce any desired product. This means billing the materials before processing so as to achieve a cost-effective production, avoiding less in buying the materials for production and also in the sale of products after production.

There are a lot of problems encountered in the manual bill of martial processing system. It is difficult to maintain the relationship between raw materials at the lowest level and the in which this raw materials are combined to form final products are not shown in the manual bill of material processing.

Most raw materials are used for more than one product. It becomes difficult to determine the final products in which a particular raw materials is used unless a separate record of the usage of raw materials is maintained.

In Nigeria, some companies are a manufacturing company that produces spare parts (ie motorcycle or motor spare parts).

Those companies are the producers of engine blocks, piston and Rings, brake shoes, Inner kick, Inner gear, con rod, clutch Fiber, Tyre and Tube etc. the bill of material processing system is operated manually.

Those involved are the production manager who is in charge of production. He lists all the raw materials that are needed for production. The stores manager takes Inventory of available raw materials and notes those that are not available. He then notifies the purchasing manager.

The purchasing manager who is the head of the purchasing department is also involved. He is responsible for buying and bringing down the materials from the source.

The Head of Finance and Accounts who is responsible for releasing funds for the purchase of raw materials.

Those people co0operate with the marketing department. This is because price of the raw materials may affect the price at which products are marketed.

This study involves an analysis of the manual system and the design of a new computer based system.

DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A WEB BASED NITEL TELEPHONE BILING SYSTEM

ABSTRACT

This application of computer in various fields has eased a lot of problems encountered in the use of manual system in the various disciplines of like. It is as measure towards addressing this issue that this project has primarily billing system that could get rid of all the shortfall. In this project the researcher have analyzed the manual system and also identified some of the problems and limitation which scene to hinder the realization of the goals of the existing system.

With regard to this the author has designed a kieb based telephone billing system to help minimize some of the problem inherent in the manual system. To bring the subject matter to pictorial form the user to appreciate more flow diagrams to be seen in subsequent chapters, more so this write up is mainly to introduce the reader to what main from can do especially in telephone billing system using Nitel Nigeria Plc Benin city as a case study.

• INTRODUCTION

Computer has proved its uniqueness in different works of life. It provides and in different ways reduces complexity and generate.   Maximum output.   This made possible through the unique features of computer system in the areas of speed, information storage and retrieval automatic is the important faced of economy in the society. If provides adequate communication causes great place havoc in the society.   The nature of communication determines the mode of transmission.

Communication through the telephone system is one of the fastest and most reliable modes of message transmission.   Through the telephone system, information can be cone eyed quickly and adequately.   Information gets to the destination immediately and the sender receives feedback at the same time.   Information storage and retrieval is also achieved through the telephone system.   Information can be stored in the absence of the receiver.   The receiver can also retrieve this information at any time.   Acquiring the phone for use is by subscription. Individual or groups that wish to acquire phone always subscribe through the organization in charge.   Information about every subscriber is taken and stored for reference purpose.   Phone subscriber pay bills according to the calls made.

The outmost speed at which the universe is being turned into a global world is attributed to the sophistication in the telecommunication industry. These radical changes have been made possible by the intention of digital technology in electronics and telecommunication analogue.   This means that the signals being handled, processed or transmitted are presented by voltage whose amplitude quinsy vary continuously with time.

Consequently, in the telephone system the transmitted signals an direct representation of the speech waveforms.   This did not provide the easy and continuous flow of soured wave in the system.   This project is aimed at developing a system that will help in the billing section of NITEL (Nigeria Telecommunication Benin) to enable serve it customers effectively. Bill them accurately and also give customers details of how they are being billed.

1.1     STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The quest for more sophisticates and affective system that can handle the telephone bills of the customers in telecommunication companies has led the researcher to the designing and development of software to handle the telephone, subscribers do complain of excessive billing and this has often been traced to the carelessness or otherwise on the part of the staff that prepare the bills. The carelessness of staff that results in the delay and stoppage of updating the customer’s bill account is another factor. Also, lack of working materials e.g. carbon sheets, stationeries and also laziness in the repairs of faulty machines is often complained about.
